Back in August we talked about how one bad vacation day doesn’t actually ruin your progress. That’s still true. But there’s a bigger threat running right now that gets almost none of the blame, and it’s not a trip anywhere. It’s a regular Tuesday in late September.
The Vacation Panic Is Backwards
Vacation has a start date and an end date. Fall doesn’t work like that. School starts, practices get scheduled, work ramps back up, and none of it arrives with a warning label. By week three, you realize you haven’t worked out in two weeks and can’t remember deciding to stop.
Why It’s Sneakier Than a Trip
A trip is one big, obvious disruption. Fall is death by a thousand small, individually reasonable cancellations, one pickup, one work thing, one game, until the habit you built in September is just gone without a single moment where you chose to quit.
How to Fall-Proof Your Schedule
- Book your workout sessions on the calendar like any other appointment.
- Protect a real minimum, even if it’s smaller than you’d like (working out 2x week)
- Simplify weeknight meals now, before the busy stretch hits.
- Treat two skipped sessions in a row as the signal to re-lock your schedule, not proof the plan isn’t working.
The trip was never the real threat. The ordinary week you stopped paying attention to was.
In my next blog I’ll give you the actual plan for the weeks when you genuinely don’t have extra time to give.
