A couple weeks ago I walked into the gym to train.

I had a plan.

I had my workout written out.

I had my water bottle.

What I did not have was motivation.

So I sat down on the bench.

And stared at my workout.

For about twenty minutes.

I checked my phone.
I tied and re-tied my shoes.
I walked around the gym once.
I sat back down.

If you have ever had a day like this, you know the feeling.

You are there.

But you are not really there yet.

Most people think that motivation comes first.

It does not.

Action comes first.

Eventually I did something very complicated.

I started with the first exercise.

One set.

That was it.

Once that set was done, the second one was easier to start.

Then the third.

Forty-five minutes later I had finished the whole workout.

Nothing heroic happened that day.

But something important did.

I showed up.

Not every workout feels amazing. Not every day you walk into the gym ready to crush it.

Some days you stare at the workout for twenty minutes first.

The key is that eventually you start.

Momentum often begins with a single imperfect step.

Show up. Start small. Let the work pull you forward.
